How to Prepare for Safe and Comfortable Sedation
If your procedure involves sedation, please follow these instructions closely to help ensure your safety and recovery.
Important Reminders

Do not eat anything
from midnight the night before your appointment unless otherwise directed.

Clear fluids only
stopping 3 hours before your appointment unless otherwise directed.

Take medications only as advised by your surgeon.
If instructed to take medications the morning of surgery, do so with a small sip of water.

No recreational drugs or alcohol
for 48 hours prior to surgery.

Arrange for a responsible adult
to accompany you to the clinic, stay during your procedure, and drive you home. You will not be permitted to leave alone.
On the Day of Surgery
You must be monitored by a responsible adult for several hours after surgery. Do not drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions until the following day.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short sleeves

Remove all jewelry, contact lenses, and nail polish

Do not wear makeup or scented products

Bring a list of medications and your provincial health card or ID
