Supporting Patients with Jaw Joint Pain and Dysfunction
We assess and treat disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), including surgical interventions for patients experiencing chronic pain, jaw instability, or limited movement.
Understanding the Impact of TMJ Dysfunction
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your lower jaw to your skull, allowing you to speak, chew, and move your jaw. When this joint becomes inflamed, misaligned, or damaged, it can lead to a range of symptoms and limitations.
Common symptoms include:
- Pain or tenderness near the jaw, ears, or temples
- Difficulty chewing or opening the mouth fully
- Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw
- Headaches or pressure around the face and neck
- Worn, cracked, or damaged teeth due to bite misalignment
These symptoms may result from joint disorders, trauma, arthritis, muscle tension, or a combination of factors.
What to Expect at Your TMJ Consultation
We begin with a thorough exam, health history review, and imaging if needed (such as CBCT scans). We’ll walk you through what we find and talk about next steps—whether that means surgery or another form of care.
Our goal is to relieve pain, improve jaw function, and help you return to everyday comfort.
